The automotive world is going electric, which means many of our favorite automotive icons will need to adapt to an electric future to survive. One of those is the Jeep Wrangler. We’ve seen the Wrangler embrace electrification with the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe. But going all-electric will require more comprehensive changes. And it may require a bit more time to implement.
Here’s what we know about the Jeep Wrangler EV so far.

When will the Jeep Wrangler EV arrive?
Jeep
According to the UAW's publication of their agreement with Stellantis, the battery-electric Jeep Wrangler will arrive in 2028. The document also says the current Wrangler will stay in production into the 2028 calendar year.
Will the next-generation Jeep Wrangler be all-electric?
Jeep
Technically, yes. The UAW document notes that there will be a BEV Wrangler and a Wrangler REPB. Per Mopar Insiders, REPB stands for Range Electric Paradigm Breaker, which is basically a range-extender for the electric vehicle.
Ram described REPB as having "all the driving characteristics of BEVs," which likely means electric propulsion for the vehicle with some form of gasoline generator.
Jeep has been releasing electric Wrangler concepts
Stellantis
Jeep has released a series of electric Wrangler Magneto concepts at Easter Jeep Safari; Magneto 3.0 was the latest with 650 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque. The concepts have sat on massive 40-inch tires and, perhaps most surprisingly, been based on a traditional two-door layout with a manual transmission.
A production Wrangler will no doubt be more sensible and sellable. But what it seems like Jeep is trying to make clear is that the eventual Wrangler EV will be very much a Wrangler and it won’t be half-assed.
The Wrangler EV should be seriously off-road capable
Stellantis
Jeep boss Christian Meunier told AutoExpress that the next-generation Wrangler would be the most capable off-road Wrangler yet. “The Trail Rating is a scale up to 10,” Meunier said. “With the next-generation Wrangler we want to push the Trail Rating to 12. Electrification doesn’t prevent us from doing anything when it comes to off-roading.”
And the Recon won’t be as capable off-road as the eventual Wrangler EV. Meunier told Auto Express that Jeep’s Trail Rating scale would place the Recon at a six or an eight, depending on the modifications.
How much will the Jeep Wrangler EV cost?
Stellantis
We’ve entered a brave new world for Wrangler pricing. Not that long ago, a $60,000 Jeep Wrangler seemed preposterous. Now, the Wrangler 4xe starts at $50,000. It’s too early to say how much an electric Wrangler will cost. But we expect it to be pricey.
