Here at GP, we have long been fans of Zero Motorcycles, which has been leading innovation in the electric moto space for damn near 20 years. Among the Santa Cruz-based brand's groundbreaking highlights are the street-centric SR/F, a 2019 GP100 selection, and the off-road-ready DSR/X, a 2022 pick.
But as Zero launches its 2024 model year line, something different jumps out: affordability. Because among the eight shiny releases, the new S makes urban riding more wallet-friendly than ever, while the new DS does the same for off-roading fans. Here's the scoop on those two bikes as well as the new DSR, a big step up from the DS that's still $3,000 cheaper than the DSR/X.
Zero S: Street Fleek on the Cheap
The new Model S boasts the best battery value yet — 14.4 kWh for less than $15,000 ($5,500 less than Zero's flagship naked bike, the SR/F). That’s twice the capacity of its predecessor, fueling an all-new motor delivering 68 hp at 4,500 rpm, plus 97 ft-lbs of torque, a top speed of 104 mph and a city range of 154 miles.
Zero DS: Offroad Entry Point
As promising as last year's DSR/X was, the initial price of $24,495 was a high bar. The new DSR/X comes in below that figure ($22,995), but this new base model is much more accessible at $15,995. It features the same battery and motor as the S, plus a reinforced chassis and long-lasting Gates carbon belt drive for piling up miles on and off the beaten path.
Zero DSR: Torqued-Up Trail Blazer
For $4,000 more than the DS, you can straddle a steed that’s even more ready to shred tough trails. This bike packs a larger 15.6 kWh battery and a brand-new motor delivering a formidable 80 hp at 3,650 rpm and 144 ft-lbs of torque, more than enough brawn to tackle dirt and gravel adventures far off the highway.
Here's the pricing for all 2024 Zero models, including the stripped-down FXE and FX, still Zero's most affordable bikes: The 2024 Model S is available for $14,995, the 2024 SR/F is available for $20,495, and the 2024 SR/S retails for $20,995. The all-new DS sells for $15,995, the all-new DSR costs $19,995, and the pinnacle electric adventure bike, the DSR/X, is available for $22,995. The FXE and FX both retail for $12,495.
